Championship Bowling on the NES is a game with three distinct ending screens. To see the “best” ending, the player needs to bowl a perfect game of 300 – that means a strike with each and every shot. While this may sound like a daunting task, Championship Bowling isn’t too tough of a nut to crack; you can produce the exact same results using the same methods every time. This one goes out to all the folks who’re desperate to see what that 300 ending looks like, just like I was – follow these steps and you’ll be the titular champion in no time.
The Strategy
First, choose these settings at the start of the game:
- Pick Lane 1. There are no changes in difficulty between lanes, so for simplicity’s sake, stick to that one.
- Pick the blonde guy.
- Pick the brown 11 pound ball.
Each game of Championship Bowling consists of 10 rounds (or chances) to get a strike. Now, there are actually only two different shots you’ll be using: I’ll refer to them as Shot A and Shot B.

- To pull off “Shot A”, follow these steps:
- Line your character up so their head is directly under the middle lane marker. Once in that position, gently tap the control pad left TWICE.
- For Control, time it so the pointer is at the bottom left-most spot.
- For Power, aim for Max.
- Refer to the screenshot above for a visual guide of these specifications.
- If done correctly, the rounds that have been marked as “Shot A” will always end in a strike.

- To pull off “Shot B”, follow these steps:
- Line up the character’s head directly under the third lane marker from the left, and gently tap the control pad right ONCE.
- For Control, time it so the pointer is in the upper right, but close to the center-most shot.
- For Power, aim for Max.
- Again, you can refer to the screenshot above for a visual guide of all of the correct specifications.
A helpful note: A small margin of error is allowed here. Having one tick less than the maximum Power bar is usually fine, as is the Control meter being off in its position by a little bit.
If you’re off by too much though, you won’t get a strike. If even one of your shots doesn’t strike out all of the pins, you may as well reset the game and start again, since it won’t be possible to score a 300.
Practice and timing make perfect – and remember, always try to aim for maximum Power!
Now that you know how to pull off Shots A and B, the correct shot to use on each round is as follows:
Round 1: Shot A
Round 2: Shot A
Round 3: Shot A
Round 4: Shot B
Round 5: Shot B
Round 6: Shot B
Round 7: Shot B
Round 8: Shot B
Round 9: Shot B
Round 10: Shot B
Round 10-2: Shot A
Round 10-3: Shot B

If you follow the specifications of each shot and do them in the correct order, you’ll be able to bowl a perfect game every time. Of course, I’m sure there’s countless other combinations of character and ball to find, but this is the one I felt out that worked for me. Hope this helps!
